Please see below for further information about differential privacy and our group's work. To get involved, please email privacytools-info seas. Differential privacy is a rigorous mathematical definition of privacy. In the simplest setting, consider an algorithm that analyzes a dataset and computes statistics about it such as the data's mean, variance, median, mode, etc. Such an algorithm is said to be differentially private if by looking at the output, one cannot tell whether any individual's data was included in the original dataset or not.
Study record managers: refer to the Data Element Definitions if submitting registration or results information. The patients will be given information on the study by the medical personnel of the Radiotherapy Department in connection with the planning of the RT schedule approximately weeks prior to the start of RT. If they are interested in participating in the study, the potential study candidates will be given the Patient Information sheet including the Declaration of Informed Consent, with the request that they reread the information carefully and if they consent to the conditions return the signed declaration when they attend the next appointment. The patients will be given the opportunity to ask the study staff further questions. A block randomization procedure shall be used to ensure the even distribution of the patients into the two intervention groups, stratified to baseline pain level.
Scientists at Heidelberg University have discovered an unusually elastic protein in one of the most ancient groups of animals, the over million-year-old cnidarians. The protein is a part of the "weapons system" that the cnidarians use: a kind of harpoon launched from their body at extremely high speed. The discovery of the hitherto unknown protein in the freshwater polyp Hydra suggests that the molecular mechanism of elasticity could have originated in the cnidarians and evolved to discharge a deadly weapon.
